Ridge Tiles
Tile ridge in is a concern when there is very little back up to prevent water from being wind blown underneath the tile ridge because of inadequate felt under lament which in this case only covers the two by four nailing board. The wind blown rain will easily go over the top edge of the tile and become a water trail all the way to the gutter. This puts more demand on the backup roof which is the felt under lament installed under the entire tile roofing and will contribute to possibly leaking in or around surrounding areas. Also with constant water on the felt paper this will deteriorate this material prematurely and cause it to crack and become moisture damaged. This roof in the Roseville area needed to have the entire ridge removed and an wider roll of hard cast (flash ban) was used to span the tiles on either side. The flash ban has a peel and stick side that when installed will seal the ridge and stop water from penetrating to the felt paper. This ridge has been caulked to keep it from blowing off but this type of asphaltic caulking will harden and crack over time and the result is no holding power. Using specific roof tile caulking with UV resistance will keep the tile secure for many years to come. Once renailed the ridge is in proper order and ready for the storms that will come.
